Volunteer to Preserve the Dunbar School on October 10th

Dunbar High School Marion County

Preservation Alliance of West Virginia (Preserve WV AmeriCorps) is organizing a historic preservation workday at the Dunbar School in Fairmont as a Civic Service Project on Monday, October 10, 2016, from 10am – 4pm.

Volunteer activities will include: scraping paint (no lead paint), minor plaster repairs to walls where needed, sanding plaster repairs, and possible priming/painting of the hallway walls (if the plaster repairs are dry), clean up of paint scrapings as well as in the gymnasium.

The Dunbar School Foundation, the benefited organization, is working to preserve and repurpose the Dunbar School for a community and recreational facility.The school is the only nationally-recognized historic site in Marion County that considers the segregated African American educational experience.

Attire: Wear closed-toed shoes and work clothes

Supplies: Tools and paint will be provided.
